We Like March…..

Because the slopes are so much quieter than February and the sun shines that much more! It’s true there are no lift q’s now. We went up the Vallandry ski lift this morning and walked straight on to it, as well as every other lift thereafter. The groomed Peisey Vallandry pistes are in great condition and it looks like we’ve some snow due this weekend.

On Monday myself and Sami took a ski lesson with an amazing instructor Rob. Our aim was to get better at steeper and tighter off piste terrain and I have to say the lesson hit the spot (thank Rob), although had me feeling rather nervous at times… but they do say you don’t improve unless you put yourself outside your comfort zone.

La Vache bar and restaurant have built up there slope style course for their competition this coming Monday 22nd March. And what better place to sit and watch but the sunny deck of the bar, with the amazing 180 degree views of the surrounding mountains (just up from the Ski Beat chalets in Plan Peisey).

I’m looking forward to the rest of March and April….

Refuge du Mont Pourri

The skiing conditions in Les Arcs are fantastic at the moment! For anyone planning their chalet holiday it couldn’t come at a better time. Loads of snow, some fantastic sunny days and good cold (but not too cold) temperatures means that the slopes are beautiful and the backcountry even better.

We decided to make the most of these conditions on Thursday and ski to the Refuge du Mont Pourri, off the back of the Grand Col chair lift. It was Rich’s birthday and we were looking for something entertaining to do and this seemed like the perfect solution. The powder was untouched and fresh so the ski down to the refuge was amazing. Once there we lit the fire and the boys decided to build a snow cave whilst the girls on the other hand sat around the fire with a glass of wine in hand. The company and the food was great and the wine flowed…. probably a bit too much because the next morning was a little hard on the head.

The following morning we hiked back out to the Crete du Lanchette. The snowboarders with snow shoes and skiers on touring bindings. Once again we got fresh tracks and some great turns.

Although I do like a good chalet holiday in Les Arcs the refuge made a very good alternative for a night.

Great Skiing Conditions

With a lively Christmas and New Year out of the way with plenty of nightlife at the Montblanc bac, La Vache and Jimmy’s it’s finally time to breath a sigh of relieve as life settles in to 2010!

The snow has been in fantastic condition with lot’s of snow falling over the last couple of weeks on the Les Arcs ski area. This week we had some bluebird days with fresh powder… what more could you ask for!

The Massage Me therapists have been hard at work with the Peisey Vallandry and Les Arcs chalets as this popular service keeps clients fresh as a daisy for their skiing.

And The Season Begins

The lifts opened on Saturday to great conditions up top. The pistes were empty, the snow in good condition, and the legs a little out of practice! After a cloudy day the first day the weather this week has been fantastic – sunny, cold and crisp! And with the opening of the lifts comes the opening of the bars. The Mont Blanc bar kicked off with a stormer! A live band and lot’s of fun and giggles. La Vache had a little more of a civilised opening with a sit down roast dinner. Chef and owner Chloe never fails to impress us with her cooking. And now the skies are filled with snow again! With lot’s more on the way by the look of it! It looks like it will be a white Christmas for the Massage Me team…. again!

More Snow

There was snow once again on the peaks last night and hopefully more on the way as we get ready for the 09-10 winter season. We are all in full swing now preparing for the Massage Me team of therapists to arrive from the 1st December.

At the weekend a group of us escaped the work and hiked up above Bourg St Maurice. We had some fantastic views back across the valley to the ski slopes of Les Arcs. The Arc 2000 bowl is looking ready to open on the 5th December for the film festival.

All I can say is bring on the 12th December when Les Arcs is fully open and we can get back on the old skis again! I feel a trip to Tignes in the mean time may be on the cards.
